Patricia Stemler Wiley passed away last week. She was 82. There was a memorial service yesterday at the United Presbyterian Church in Watsonville, CA. Pat and her husband Newt ran Roses of Yesterday and Today for 20 years until they retired in 1996. The nursery had previously been operated by Pat's mother, Dorothy Stemler. Pat and her mother got people excited about OGRs at a time when few people were interested. Roses of Yesterday and Today was one of the first nurseries I visited when I began growing roses seriously, and it was the source of many of my favorite roses. Pat's sons Andy and Jack, and Jack's wife Guinevere, have run the nursery for over 10 years and will hopefully continue to do so for many years to come. Jim Turner |
