Stephen -- that spectacular Gallica foliage is no asset here. It suffers badly from mildew and rust -- Rt. 66 shows no disease at all, so I can live with its smooth healthy blandness. In fact, I have here a small plant of 'The French Strumpet,' from the Heritage. It's a HGallica, with Gallica-like foliage. I don't know whether or not it will BLOOM for me here, but I am astonished to see that it remains completely disease free for me. |

Another wonderful photo, Etienne. The color is perfertion itself. I want to dive in and roll around on those velvet petals. If Route 66 had the spectacular foliage of a Hybrid China or Gallica, then it would be more appealing to me. |

It is UNDOUBTEDLY sacrilege. OTOH, Rt. 66 is a nice stopgap for those of us who cannot grow Gallicas at all.

Very desirable. I wonder how it would look offset against Route 66 (or would that be a sacrilege?) |

Etienne, I think it was your pictures several years ago on Gardenweb that enabled me to get this rose. I am so happy with this enabling. One of my very favorite roses. Olga |

<sigh> I think that is one of the loveliest roses imaginable. I can't grow it here, but I can at least sigh over such a beautiful photo of it. Jeri Jennings |
