PRUNING OLD GARDEN ROSES IN SHREVEPORT
FEBRUARY 17, 18  2006

The American Rose Society has "handed over" the planning and development of the collection of old garden and species roses in the American Rose Center in Shreveport, Louisiana to the Heritage Rose Foundation. This collection, formerly known as the Hudson Heritage Rose Garden is now known as the Heritage Rose Foundation Garden. Our president, Stephen Scanniello, will be at the garden Friday, Saturday, and Sunday February 17, 18 and 19 to prune the Old Roses. Everyone is invited to attend. During the day on Saturday you are invited to follow Stephen in the HRF Garden and watch him prune OGRs. But beware, you'll eventually be put to work! We look forward to seeing you there!

The ARS has planned an event around this weekend, and the following is from the ARS.
Heritage Rose Foundation members are invited!

Annual "PRUNING PARTY" at the Gardens of the American Rose Center, Shreveport, La. Friday and Saturday, February 17 and 18, 2006 February is rose pruning time in North Louisiana, and the Gardens of the American Rose Center in Shreveport is seeking volunteers to join the "party" - to help prune the park's more than 22,000 roses. The Annual "Pruning Party" will begin the rose year, offering an expanded program of education and work, fun and good food!

Anyone interested in participating, regardless of experience, is invited to bring pruners and gloves and join in the "party". Pruners will begin on Friday, and are invited to end the day by renewing friendships over at a Dutch-treat dinner at a nearby restaurant on Friday night. (Contact Marilyn Wellan at roseusa@bellsouth.net so we can get a count). After dinner, noted author, speaker and rose landscape designer Stephen Scanniello will give a presentation on the habits of Old Garden Roses and how to prune them. On Saturday morning Baxter Williams will provide his popular annual rose pruning how-to seminar beginning at 8:00 a.m.; hands-on assistance for beginners will follow. Stephen Scanniello will demonstrate pruning OGRs in the garden late Saturday morning. Lunch will be provided for pruners on Saturday at 12 noon, after which Mike Mitchell will provide a program on rose care products. Logan Shillinglaw of Rosemania will be in attendance as well and will talk about the rose horticulture program at the ARC. There will be plenty of time to get the roses pruned at the Gardens of the American Rose Society on Friday and Saturday, February 17 and 18. We hope you will come and encourage your friends to attend as well.
